When a man and a woman are united in marriage in the eyes of God, they are seen in God’s eyes as one, and inseparable. Paul describes this unity in his discussion of the hierarchy which God has established. 1 Corinthians 11:11,12 “Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without [...] In the final verses of 1 Corinthians 7, Paul ends on some summary thoughts on marriage. In studying this chapter, there are several things which we learn from it which apply to our Christian lives. Marriage and morality are important to the Lord. We live in a world where it is deemed appropriate, and [...] Paul has word for unmarried people in 1 Corinthians 7. But before we get into the specific advice, it is helpful to view a backdrop of what the church was undergoing at the time Paul wrote these things. Nero ruled at the time, and was persecuting Christians. Jesus is referred to in the Bible as the Bridegroom, and the church is referred to as the bride. In 1 Corinthians 7:10,11, Paul talks about marriage and divorce. We can have some questions answered regarding marriage and divorce, as well [...] Paul continues his discussion in 1 Corinthians 7 of the relationship between a married couple. 1 Corinthians 7:5,6 “Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. [...] The apostle Paul lays out a blueprint for a Godly marriage in 1 Corinthians chapter 7. As I studies these first four verses, I am reminded of the parallel between our earthly marriage and the church’s marriage to the Bridegroom.
